Daddy time
How lucky are these sweet girls to have such a great Daddy?! He enjoys taking his daughters to play or go swimming, giving them rides, holding them, and especially making them smile. We love spending time with Daddy.

Alexandra's Blessing Day
Priesthood Blessings 
Isn't she precious?! Having your child "blessed" is a sacred and happy occasion. It was so special to hear the voice of my sweetheart at the front of the church blessing our little Lexi with all of the blessings a father could desire for his child (good health, a foundation in Jesus Christ, a desire for serving others, a good relationship with her family, the desire to gain an education, etc.)
It was only last year that Savannah was blessed by her daddy... It was just so sweet to re-visit the memory as well as to savor this new memory of Lexi's day. When Savannah was blessed last year she wore what was once my blessing dress as an infant. We debated whether Lexi should wear the same gown or have her own little dress. After much thought I concluded that as the second girl she will have plenty of hand-me-down dresses; so for such a special occasion she should have her own dress. Grandma D agreed and volunteered to give Lexi a dress. She then took it to the next level by providing Savannah with her own dress as well and it was a perfect match so our girls were dressed as twins. What can I say, we love to match them. (Thanks again for the beautiful dresses Mom!)
We were so fortunate to have family and friends around to support us for this great event. (As mentioned in the previous post - Anthony, Chelsea, and Ethan surprised us the day before so that they could be with us all. Us all = my parents, my cousin Shelleigh & her boyfriend Noe, and our great Austin friends.)
And of course, no happy occasion is complete without a barbecue! We loved sharing the afternoon with our nearest and dearest Austin- family. It was a great day to remember and revisit. Thanks to all who made it so special.

In modern revelation, parents who are members of the Church are commanded to bring their children “before the church,” where the elders “are to lay their hands upon them in the name of Jesus Christ, and bless them in his name” (D&C 20:70). This is why parents bring babies to a sacrament meeting, where an elder—usually the father—gives them a name and a blessing.

A Welcome Surprise
After a six month deployment in Afghanistan my brother Anthony returned home to his family in Georgia this past week. As a family we had decided to not call him because we didn't want to infringe on time with his sweet wife Chelsea and handsome son Ethan. So the policy was we would wait until he called us and in the meantime send our love and well wishes via email, text, or blog. :-) Well, unfortunately I missed a call from my brother on Wednesday while I was at youth group and tempted as I was to call him back that evening - I stuck to the system and decided to wait for him to contact me again.
Little did I know that he was able to make contact with Michael and plan an amazing surprise for me and my parents...
In order to be here for little Alexandra's blessing at church Anthony, Chelsea & Ethan drove 19 hours. What a pleasant surprise! How lucky am I to have such a great hubby who can keep a secret and a great brother who would come all this way to surprise/support us AND a great sister-in-law who is willing to share her sweetheart with us so soon after getting him back!!! Love and thanks to you all.

Michael and US Citizenship
Michael arrived in Houston, Texas 13 years ago as a college student. He followed his eldest brother to Houston and over the years all but one of his siblings have come over to now reside in the US. Up until last year Michael had been content as a 'permanent resident' with a Kenyan passport. He loves his birth country of Kenya and has worked hard for the American dream, paid taxes without complaint and enjoyed the freedoms and benefits of living in this country. I say up until last year because it was the first time he felt like he was missing out by not being a registered voter. And thus began the arduous process of filing for a change of status to become a United States citizen... 
So on Thursday, August 27th at approximately 2:30pm CST, Michael took the oath of citizenship and was sworn in/naturalized a citizen of the USA. The ceremony was overall about 1 hour which incorporated color guard presenting the flag, the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem being sung, a few speakers sharing their experiences of going through the process, new citizens filling out voter registration cards, and a brief video slide show with JFK's "Ask not what your country can do for you" speech and the "I'm proud to be an American" song. It was a very patriotic and uplifting experience to be a part of. The only inconvenience was that it was standing room only for family and friends, so it was difficult to get a good picture or video of the ceremony. The above picture was taken afterward with the judge who officiated the function.
Lucky for me the girls slept through the entire programme so I was able to enjoy it all and reflect back over the nine years that I've known Michael and the wonderful example and man that he is. What a blessing to our family, to have a provider who loves us and loves this country.
