Santa made an early run for us this year. We were gonna be heading to Houston for Christmas and even though we were back in Austin the day after, I just couldn't wait for the girls to open their presents. And I didn't want to have to pack along the gifts for the trip. I realize that I won't always be able to pull this on our children but this year it worked out. They were both aware of who Santa is because they saw Santa on several occasions (AZ mall, Primrose, riding our neighborhood fire truck, etc), they watched some fun Christmas shows and cartoons, AND they downloaded an app on my Iphone with a talking Santa (lesson learned - never update apps and then hand the phone over to my children because there is a window of opportunity and they will seize it.) Lexi who wasn't too fond of him in person and still says only a handful of words was able to work his name into her vocabulary. So as it worked out, Santa came early to our house this year and it was a very Dora Christmas. Our princesses got princess dress up clothes, shoes, and jewelry. They got Dora puzzles, dolls, slippers, stickers, sunglasses, you name it. Savannah got a fun little kid proof digital camera and Lexi got a talking camera too. I had to laugh at the changes of expression that they would give when opening a toy versus something boring like clothes. It's amazing that even at ages 1&2 these girls know what's up. And I realize that next year I'm gonna hafta do the Christmas shopping without little eyes because several times Savannah asked me "who got this for me Mom?" and if I said Santa she would correct me that we bought it at the store. I've gotta up my sneaky game for the coming years.
