My LASIK experience

I went to the Mann-Eye Institute yesterday to have the blade free Lasik procedure done on my eyes. I went in with a slight astigmatism and major near-sightedness (I'm not sure of the numbers, I'll hafta look back in my records to find that out) but after lots of waiting and then a 3-5 minute procedure I walked out a new woman. I get to wear these fashionable eye shields that I tape to my face at night to ensure that I don't disturb the lens from healing. It's recommended to wear for at least 5 nights but I may wear them longer because I've had cedar fever killing me this season. This morning I woke up and could see the time on the alarm clock across the room and when I went in for my follow-up appt I tested that I was seeing 20/20 already.
The best description for my experience is that it is how I imagine an alien abduction would be. I wasn't strapped down or anything crazy like that. But I was wide awake for the procedure, staring up at lights and for a second everything went dark even though my eyes were open but then I was seeing lights of various colors dancing in the machine and quickly my vision as it was (foggy at best without glasses) returned. Prior to the procedure, measurements are double/triple checked and numbing drops were put into my eyes. In addition I was given Ibuprofen and Valium to relax me and help me to sleep after the procedure because it is most uncomfortable right after the surgery. So it's win-win if you can sleep after, my eyes could recover from the trauma and I slept through the most painful recovery moments. Michael was there with me and was able to video some of the procedure via the television monitor in the room. It's pretty intense to watch but I assure you that I felt no discomfort and my experience has been only positive. My appointment was late in the afternoon and so after Michael drove home I quickly went to bed and awoke sometime after 10pm. It was cool to already recognize some improvement so soon after.
UPDATE: At my one week follow up visit, I tested that I'm seeing 20/15. I am so amazed by modern medicine. I tell you that this procedure was worth every penny!
